A food cooked at the table using a ceramic or metal pot with its own heat source. There are three kinds of fondue. Cheese fondue is a melted cheese mixture into which chunks of crusty bread are dipped. Meat fondue involves cooking cubes of meat or poultry in hot oil. Dessert fondue is a heated dessert sauce, often chocolate, that is used to coat pieces of a cake or fruit. The term also refers to a puffy baked casserole that is made with cubes of bread.
