How to make flavored olive oil

Flavored oil can be made very easily and imbue food with discreet and interesting aromas.

The first thing you will need to make flavored oil is good quality olive oil

The remaining ingredients can be any combination of the following:

  • Spices, such as various types of pepper, coriander, curry, star anise, etc.
  • Herbs, such as thyme, rosemary, winter savory, sage, etc.
  • Citrus zest, such as orange, lemon, lime, etc.
  • Aromatics, such as garlic, ginger, lemongrass, etc.
  • Aromatic vegetables with a particular flavor, such as peppers, etc.

  1. Add the ingredients we wish to use to the oil

  2. Heat over low heat to around 50°C-60°C for as long as it takes for the oil to become well flavored.

  3. Strain carefully, ensuring that no moisture or solid residues are present.

    The oil you are left with must not have traces of any other ingredients so that it will keep for a reasonable period of time.

    Store in an airtight receptacle which does not allow light to get through, away from direct sunlight.
