The pod or seed of any of several plants in the legume family. Beans have a mild flavor and are green, yellow or purple. They vary in shape from pencil thin to wide and flat. Most beans are the undeveloped pods of the bean plant and are eaten pod and all. Green beans have a fair amount of vitamins A and C.
