![Mushrooms: Should they be washed?](https://yiannislucacos.gr/sites/default/files/styles/head_image_960x600/public/q_a1103_1103Manitaria_0.jpg?itok=AXlVa4ot)
There is a common assumption that mushrooms should not be washed because they absorb a large quantity of water and this is why you should wipe them clean with absorbent kitchen paper.
For the common varieties sold commercially - simple button mushrooms, pleurotus and Portobello mushrooms - this is not the case.
You can wash these mushrooms under running water and then drain and dry them well.
