Produced by a plant that is a relative of the green vegetable celery. Whole or in powder form, it is added to soups, sauces, and stews, and can also be used in breads and salted biscuits. Celery seed is used to flavor foods as varied as tomato juice, canapés, condiments, omelets and salad dressings. Probably its most known use is for the American cabbage salad “coleslaw”.
